Job Link offers a variety of workshops to help you be more competitive in the workplace. Our experience shows that the more knowledge you have when doing a job search or making a job change, the faster you will get that next job. The weekly networking group provides the support and job lead sharing needed when searching for a job.

 

SELF ASSESSMENT -- First recommended workshop*
This is both a Career Exploration and Job Search Workshop. It will assist you to evaluate your values, skills and interests and to use these tools in making occupational choices. You will obtain a clearer understanding of what you have to offer employers.
* It is highly recommended that this workshop be taken before Exploring Careers and before any of the Job Search workshops.

EXPLORING CAREERS
In this workshop you will learn how to manage your career in the changing world of work, research career options using Labor Market Information, and connect with people to obtain career information.

INFORMATIONAL INTERVIEWS
This workshop addresses why Informational Interviews are an important part of your career decision making research and networking for a job. Learn how to arrange a meeting, conduct the interview, and follow up. Recommended for WIA Scholarship Applicants.

SELF ESTEEM AND CHANGE
This workshop addresses self-motivation and self-confidence in the midst of change. It also explores components of self-esteem, the signs of resistance to change and goal setting strategies. This workshop can be taken at any time during your career exploration or job search process.

JOB SEARCH 101
This is an overview of effective job search techniques, not a hands-on workshop.
Major topics include: common job search resources; how employers hire vs. how job seekers look for work; transferable skills; networking; a quick overview of informational interviews; job applications; career portfolios; pieces of an effective resume; and job interviews; concluding with a job search action plan. It is recommended that you have a job goal to attend this workshop, but it is not required.

ON-LINE JOB SEARCH
This workshop teaches basic internet job search techniques such as attaching documents to an e-mail, filling out on-line applications, and strategies using websites for job search.

SOCIAL NETWORKING SITES & JOB SEARCH
This informational workshop is for Job Link clients who would like to explore Social Networking Sites for Job Search, including Linkedin, Facebook, and Twitter. Clients will learn how to set up a profile, and how to brand and build connections.

THE HIDDEN JOB MARKET
This workshop will provide you with pro-active, effective job search techniques based on how employers hire. You will learn how to go beyond the classifieds to uncover the “Hidden Job Market” by targeting industries and employers and developing contacts through networking and cold call approaches.

BASIC RESUME
This workshop is for people who do not have a resume or are going through a career change. You will learn the tools to write an effective, targeted, one-page resume.

ADVANCED RESUME
This workshop is for people who have a resume that needs a slight update or modification. You will learn the tools to write an effective, targeted, one-page resume.

INTERVIEWING*
This workshop focuses on common and current interviewing techniques and Questions and Answers. It will help you to effectively prepare and practice to interview successfully, including how you present yourself and how to close an interview. Please bring a copy of your resume.
* We highly recommend that you take the Resume workshop before taking the Interviewing workshop.

JOB NETWORK -- You must have a job goal to attend.
This is an on-going, weekly meeting of individuals actively searching for a job. This group is an opportunity for networking with others, getting and giving support, and exchanging job search tips, information, and suggestions. A great way to jump-start your week!
It meets every Monday morning at 9:15 sharp. No sign-up is required.

55+ NETWORK
Through informative handouts and different topics of discussion these meetings address areas pertinent to senior workers. It meets every other Monday at 1:00 PM. Sign-up is required.
